Conduction System

The conduction system of the heart is a specialized network of cells that generate and transmit electrical signals, coordinating the heart's contractions. It begins with the sinoatrial (SA) node, known as the natural pacemaker, which sends out electrical impulses that cause the atria to contract. These signals then reach the atrioventricular (AV) node, which briefly delays the impulse, ensuring the ventricles fill with blood. From there, the impulse travels through the bundle of His and Purkinje fibers, causing the ventricles to contract and pump blood to the lungs and body. This system maintains a consistent and effective heartbeat.
