Complications of intravitreal injections
Intravitreal injections are common treatments for eye conditions, but they can have some risks. Possible complications include infections inside the eye (endophthalmitis), which can seriously affect vision; increased eye pressure; retinal detachment, where the retina pulls away; and bleeding inside the eye. Sometimes, the injection may cause floaters or cloudiness temporarily. Rarely, there can be damage to eye structures. Most complications are uncommon and preventable with proper sterile techniques and careful monitoring by your eye specialist. If you notice suddenly worse vision, pain, or floaters, contact your doctor promptly.
