Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI)
The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) is a group of islands in the western Pacific Ocean that is a self-governing territory of the United States. It includes 14 islands, with Saipan being the largest and most populated. The CNMI has its own local government but follows U.S. federal laws. It relies heavily on tourism and agriculture for its economy. The islands have a rich cultural heritage influenced by Indigenous Chamorro and Carolinian peoples, as well as Spanish and American history. Residents are U.S. citizens but cannot vote in presidential elections.
