Command Module Pilot
The Command Module Pilot (CMP) was an astronaut responsible for managing the spacecraft’s systems and navigation during a lunar mission. Positioned in the command module—the main part of the spacecraft—the CMP ensured the spacecraft stayed on course, monitored technical systems, and supported the other crew members. They played a crucial role in maintaining communication with mission control and assisting with docking procedures. Essentially, the CMP served as the spacecraft’s navigator and manager, ensuring a safe and successful journey to and from the Moon.
