Colombian Independence Movement

The Colombian Independence Movement was a series of events in the early 19th century that led to Colombia’s liberation from Spanish rule. Driven by ideas of freedom, equality, and self-governance, local leaders and citizens sought to break away from colonial control. Influenced by Enlightenment principles and other independence movements in Latin America, they organized protests, battles, and political efforts. After several struggles, Colombia officially declared independence in 1810, culminating in the establishment of a sovereign nation. This movement was part of the broader Latin American struggle to end colonial domination and create independent republics.
