Colectomy
Colectomy is a surgical procedure that involves removing part or all of the colon, which is a major part of the large intestine. This surgery is often performed to treat conditions like colon cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, or severe diverticulitis. Depending on how much of the colon is removed, the surgeon may create a new connection for the remaining sections of the intestine or, in some cases, divert waste into an external pouch. The goal of colectomy is to alleviate symptoms, remove diseased tissue, and improve the patient's overall health.
