Coho Salmon

Coho salmon, also known as silver salmon, are a species of Pacific salmon known for their vibrant silver color and distinctive red-orange spawning coloration. They hatch in freshwater streams, migrate to the Pacific Ocean to grow, and eventually return to their original freshwater habitats to spawn. Coho salmon are valued both ecologically, as vital parts of aquatic ecosystems, and commercially for their quality meat. They typically live 3 to 4 years, and during spawning, males develop a pronounced hooked jaw and brighter colors. Their populations are affected by habitat changes and overfishing, making conservation efforts important.
