Cognitive interference occurs when competing thoughts, distractions, or mental tasks disrupt our ability to focus on a specific activity or process information efficiently. It happens when the brain’s resources are split between multiple stimuli or thoughts, making it harder to concentrate, remember, or make decisions smoothly. For example, trying to listen to a lecture while thinking about an unrelated problem can cause cognitive interference, reducing understanding and retention.
