Clam cultivation
Clam cultivation involves breeding and growing clams in controlled environments to produce sustainable seafood. It starts with selecting healthy juvenile clams or cultivating larvae in hatcheries. These young clams are then transferred to specially prepared beds or cages in shallow coastal waters. Farmers ensure optimal water quality, manage predators, and sometimes provide additional nutrients to promote growth. Over time, the clams filter feed on plankton, gradually increasing in size. When they reach a desired size, they are harvested for commercial sale. This practice helps meet seafood demand while conserving wild clam populations.
