Chondromalacia patellae

Chondromalacia patellae is a condition where the cartilage under the kneecap (patella) softens and deteriorates. This cartilage normally helps the kneecap glide smoothly over the thigh bone during movement. When it wears down, it can cause pain, especially when kneeling, climbing stairs, or sitting for long periods. Often linked to overuse, misalignment, or injury, it can lead to a feeling of grinding or cracking in the knee. Treatment typically involves rest, physical therapy, and addressing any contributing factors to help reduce symptoms and prevent further cartilage damage.
