Cholesterol gallstones

Cholesterol gallstones are hardened deposits formed in the gallbladder, primarily made of cholesterol. They develop when cholesterol in bile becomes too concentrated and crystallizes, leading to stone formation. Factors like high cholesterol levels, obesity, rapid weight loss, or certain medical conditions can increase the risk. These stones can sometimes block the flow of bile, causing pain, inflammation, or other digestive issues. Usually, small and smooth, they may be diagnosed through imaging tests. Treatment options include monitoring, medications, or surgical removal of the gallbladder if symptoms or complications occur.
