Cholecystectomy

Cholecystectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the gallbladder, a small organ under the liver that stores bile to aid digestion. It is typically performed when the gallbladder causes problems like gallstones, inflammation, or infections. The surgery can be done laparoscopically, using small incisions and a camera, or through open surgery if needed. After removal, bile flows directly from the liver to the small intestine. Most patients recover quickly and can usually resume normal activities within a few days to weeks, with minimal long-term effects on digestion.
