cholangiopathy

Cholangiopathy is a condition involving damage or disease of the bile ducts, which are small tubes that carry bile from the liver to the gallbladder and intestines. Bile helps digest fats, and when these ducts are injured or blocked, it can cause symptoms like jaundice (yellowing of the skin), itching, and abdominal pain. Causes include infections, immune system disorders, toxins, or blockages from gallstones or tumors. Depending on the type and severity, cholangiopathy can lead to liver damage if untreated. Diagnosis often involves imaging tests, blood work, and sometimes biopsy.
