Charles the Bold's marriage alliances

Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy, sought strategic marriage alliances to strengthen his political and territorial influence in Europe. His marriage to Margaret of York connected him to English interests, while his marriage to Bona of Savoy aimed to secure alliances with Italy. These unions were designed to enhance Burgundy's power, shape regional diplomacy, and buffer against rivals like France and the Holy Roman Empire. Although marriage politics were crucial for consolidating regional control and expanding his influence, Charles's ambitions ultimately faced challenges, culminating in his untimely death at the Battle of Nancy in 1477.
