Charles Martel
Charles Martel was a Frankish leader in the early 8th century, best known for his role as a military commander and for strengthening the power of the Frankish empire. He famously led the Frankish forces to victory against Muslim invaders at the Battle of Tours in 732, which is often credited with halting the northward expansion of Islamic influence in Western Europe. This victory earned him the nickname "The Hammer." Martel's achievements helped lay the groundwork for the Carolingian Empire and the future reign of his grandson, Charlemagne, who would further unite and expand the region.
