Chagas Disease (American Trypanosomiasis)

Chagas disease, also called American Trypanosomiasis, is a parasitic infection caused by the Trypanosoma cruzi parasite. It is primarily transmitted through the feces of infected triatomine bugs, often called "kissing bugs," which bite humans. The disease has an initial acute phase with mild symptoms or none at all, but if untreated, it can become chronic, affecting the heart, digestive system, and other organs. It is mainly found in Latin America but can spread through blood transfusions, organ transplants, or from mother to child. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial to prevent serious health complications.
