Certification Elections

Certification elections are formal votes held to determine if employees want to be represented by a union. In this process, workers express their desire for union representation to ensure collective bargaining on wages, benefits, and working conditions. Typically initiated when a group of employees feels they need a stronger voice in their workplace, the election is overseen by a labor relations board to ensure fairness. If the majority of votes support the union, it becomes the official representative for negotiations with the employer. This process helps empower workers and facilitates dialogue between them and their employer.
