CERCLA National Priorities List
The Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), commonly known as Superfund, mandates the identification and cleanup of hazardous waste sites in the United States. The National Priorities List (NPL) is a list created by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that prioritizes the most contaminated sites requiring urgent attention. Sites on the NPL are eligible for federal funding for cleanup efforts. Being on this list indicates a significant risk to human health or the environment and helps allocate resources to restore these sites for safe public use.
