Central venous catheter
A central venous catheter (CVC) is a medical device inserted into a large vein, usually in the neck, chest, or groin. It allows healthcare providers to give medications, fluids, or nutrients directly into the bloodstream, monitor blood pressure, or draw blood for tests. CVCs are often used for patients who require long-term treatment, such as those undergoing chemotherapy or needing total parenteral nutrition (TPN). The procedure is typically done in a hospital setting, and while generally safe, it does carry some risks, such as infection or complications related to the insertion.
