Cawnpore Massacre
The Cawnpore Massacre occurred during the Indian Rebellion of 1857, when Indian soldiers (sepoys) and civilians attacked British forces in Cawnpore (Kanpur). After months of fighting, British survivors barricaded themselves in a fort. In June 1857, the rebels captured the fort and killed many British women, children, and soldiers. Later, British forces retaliated, leading to further violence. The event became a symbol of the brutal conflict and intensified tensions between Indians and the British, influencing the course of India’s struggle for independence.
