Cavities

Cavities are areas of decay that form on the surface of teeth when the enamel, the tooth's hard outer layer, is damaged by acids produced by bacteria in plaque. These acids result from sugars in food and drinks. Over time, the enamel erodes, creating holes or holes in the tooth. If left untreated, cavities can progress deeper into the tooth, causing pain, infections, and even tooth loss. Maintaining good oral hygiene—regular brushing, flossing, and avoiding excessive sugary foods—helps prevent cavity formation. Dental visits are essential for early detection and treatment of cavities.
