Castellammarese War
The Castellammarese War (1930-1931) was a violent power struggle among rival Italian-American mafia factions in New York City. It involved two main groups vying for control of organized crime operations: the forces aligned with Salvatore Maranzano and those loyal to Giuseppe "Joe" Masseria. The conflict was marked by numerous murders and criminal clashes. Ultimately, the war ended when Lucky Luciano, a rising mobster, orchestrated the assassination of both leaders, leading to a restructured, more organized crime network. This marked a significant shift in Mafia operations, establishing the groundwork for modern organized crime in America.
