Cassation (France)
In France, "Cassation" refers to the Court of Cassation, which is the highest court for civil and criminal cases. Its role is not to re-examine facts but to review whether the law was properly applied by lower courts. If a legal error is identified, it can annul (cancel) the previous decision and send the case back for a new trial. Essentially, Cassation ensures uniform interpretation and application of the law across the judicial system, safeguarding legal consistency and proper legal standards.
