Cartilage restoration techniques
Cartilage restoration techniques aim to repair or replace damaged cartilage in joints like the knee, improving function and reducing pain. Methods include microfracture surgery, where tiny holes are made to stimulate new cartilage growth, and osteochondral grafts, which transplant healthy cartilage from another area. Autologous chondrocyte implantation involves growing a patient's own cartilage cells in a lab and reimplanting them into the defect. These procedures help restore joint surface smoothness, improve mobility, and delay or prevent the need for joint replacement, ultimately promoting healthier joint function.
