Carta Democrática Interamericana

The Carta Democrática Interamericana is an agreement among countries in the Americas that promotes and defends democratic practices and institutions. Adopted in 2001 by the Organization of American States (OAS), it sets standards for democratic governance, including respect for human rights, fair elections, and the rule of law. The document also provides a framework for addressing threats or setbacks to democracy, such as authoritarianism or electoral violations, encouraging dialogue and, if necessary, collective action to restore democratic order in member states.
