Carrier Moms
Carrier moms are women who carry and transmit certain genetic conditions, called carrier status, without showing any symptoms themselves. They possess one copy of a gene variant linked to a specific disorder, like cystic fibrosis or Tay-Sachs disease. While unaffected, they can pass the gene to their children. If the partner is also a carrier, there's a risk the child may inherit the condition. Carrier testing helps identify these women before pregnancy, allowing for informed decisions or early interventions. This understanding aids in assessing reproductive risks and planning for potential genetic conditions in offspring.
