Cardioplegia

Cardioplegia is a medical technique used during heart surgery to temporarily stop the heart from beating. This is accomplished by administering a special solution that slightly cools and protects the heart muscle, allowing surgeons to work without the heart moving. The solution also supplies nutrients and prevents damage from lack of blood flow. Once surgery is complete, blood flow and heart activity are carefully restored. Cardioplegia helps ensure the heart remains unharmed and stable during complex procedures, improving safety and outcomes for the patient.
