Capaci bombing
The Capaci bombing was a deadly attack carried out on May 23, 1992, near Palermo, Sicily. Sicilian Mafia members planted a large amount of explosives beneath the highway, targeting anti-Mafia judge Giovanni Falcone, who was traveling nearby. When the bomb detonated, it destroyed a section of the road, killing Falcone, his wife, and three police officers. The attack aimed to eliminate key figures fighting organized crime, but it also drew widespread condemnation and increased efforts against the Mafia in Italy.
