Cancer Cell Biology

Cancer cell biology involves understanding how normal cells become abnormal and grow uncontrollably. In healthy cells, growth and division are carefully regulated. Cancer cells arise from genetic mutations that disrupt this regulation, leading to persistent growth, resistance to cell death, and the ability to invade nearby tissues or spread to other parts of the body (metastasis). These cells often ignore signals that tell them to stop dividing and can develop new blood supplies (angiogenesis) to support their growth. Studying these mechanisms helps in developing targeted therapies to detect, inhibit, or eliminate cancer cells effectively.
