Callus Formation
Callus formation is the body's natural response to skin injury or repeated friction. When your skin experiences trauma or constant rubbing, the body signals the skin cells to produce more keratin, a protein that strengthens the outer layer. This leads to the thickening and hardening of the skin, forming a protective, raised area called a callus. It acts as a shield to prevent further injury. While common on hands and feet, calluses develop over time with consistent pressure or irritation and are the body's way of adapting to prevent damage.
