California State Police

The California State Police was a law enforcement agency in California, primarily responsible for enforcing laws on state highways and providing assistance to local police departments. It served to maintain public safety, conduct investigations, and respond to emergencies. However, in 1995, it was merged into the California Highway Patrol (CHP), which now handles traffic enforcement and related duties statewide. The CHP also engages in community programs to promote safety and reduce crime. In essence, while the California State Police no longer exists as a separate entity, its functions continue under the CHP's jurisdiction.
