California Integrated Waste Management Board

The California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) was a state agency focused on managing waste in environmentally responsible ways. Established to promote recycling and reduce landfill use, it developed policies, regulations, and programs aimed at waste prevention, efficient disposal, and resource recovery. The board worked with local governments, businesses, and communities to improve waste management practices, encouraging sustainable behaviors. In 2010, its responsibilities were transferred to the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle), which continues the mission of promoting recycling and sustainable waste management across California.
