Calfactant

Calfactant is a medication used to treat premature infants with undeveloped lungs, specifically a condition called neonatal respiratory distress syndrome. It is a natural-like substance made from animal lung surfactant, which helps keep the tiny air sacs in the lungs open so the baby can breathe more easily. Normally, infants produce surfactant on their own, but premature babies often do not, leading to breathing difficulties. By replacing their missing surfactant, Calfactant improves lung function, reduces the effort needed to breathe, and helps ensure better oxygen flow to vital organs.
