Cabrini-Green
Cabrini-Green was a public housing complex in Chicago, built between the 1940s and 1960s to provide affordable housing for low-income families. Over time, it became known for high crime rates and poverty, partly due to neglect and economic decline. The area was associated with urban decay and negative stereotypes, but also housed many residents seeking stability. Starting in the 1990s, the city began demolishing Cabrini-Green to replace it with newer, mixed-income developments as part of efforts to improve living conditions and address social issues linked to concentrated poverty.
