Byzantine period

The Byzantine period refers to the time when the Byzantine Empire existed, from approximately 330 AD to 1453 AD. It was the eastern continuation of the Roman Empire, with its capital in Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul). This era was marked by Roman law, Christian tradition, extensive art and architecture, and complex political and military struggles. Byzantine culture bridged ancient Roman traditions and medieval Europe, influencing art, religion (notably Eastern Orthodoxy), and diplomacy. The period ended when the Ottomans captured Constantinople, bringing about the decline of the empire and the start of Ottoman dominance in the region.
