Byzantine Army

The Byzantine Army was the military force of the Byzantine Empire, known for its strong defense and strategic innovations from about the 4th to 15th centuries. It combined professional soldiers, heavily armored infantry (like the famous cataphracts or heavily armed cavalry), and specialized units such as archers and engineers. The army used advanced tactics, fortifications, and diplomacy to protect its territories against numerous enemies, including Persians, Arabs, Turks, and Crusaders. Its organization and technology influenced later medieval armies, and it played a crucial role in preserving the remnants of Roman military tradition over a thousand years.
