Bureau of Public Roads (BPR)
The Bureau of Public Roads (BPR) was a U.S. government agency established in 1918, primarily responsible for the development and improvement of the nation's road infrastructure. It played a crucial role in planning, funding, and constructing highways, especially during the post-World War II era when the Interstate Highway System was created. The BPR aimed to enhance transportation efficiency and safety while promoting economic growth. In 1967, the agency merged into the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), which continues its mission to oversee and improve the nation's roadways and support state and local highway programs.
