Bureau of Prohibition

The Bureau of Prohibition was a federal agency established in 1919 to enforce the 18th Amendment, which banned the manufacturing, sale, and transportation of alcoholic beverages in the United States. Its main goal was to reduce alcohol consumption and related social problems. The agency oversaw efforts to stop illegal alcohol activities, including clandestine brewing and smuggling. Prohibition led to significant challenges such as organized crime and enforcement difficulties. The Bureau operated until 1933, when the 21st Amendment repealed Prohibition, ending the ban on alcohol.
