Bureau of Export Administration (BEA)
The Bureau of Export Administration (BEA) was a part of the U.S. Department of Commerce responsible for regulating the export of sensitive goods and technology to ensure national security and foreign policy goals. It aimed to prevent potentially dangerous items from falling into the wrong hands while promoting legitimate trade. The BEA developed and enforced regulations and licenses for exporting products, especially those that could have military or dual-use applications. In 2001, the BEA was reorganized and its functions became part of the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS).
