Buoyage Systems
Buoyage systems are navigational aids used in maritime contexts to guide vessels safely through waters. They consist of buoys, markers, and beacons that indicate safe passages, warn of hazards, or define specific routes. Generally divided into two main systems—Lateral and Cardinal—buoys signal which side a vessel should pass (e.g., a green buoy on the left when entering a harbor). Each buoy color, shape, and light pattern conveys specific information to mariners. Understanding these signals helps ensure safe navigation and enhances maritime safety.
