Bulgarian nobility
Bulgarian nobility refers to the aristocratic class that held significant social, political, and landowning power in historic Bulgaria. During medieval times, noble families governed regions, supported the monarchy, and contributed to cultural and military efforts. Titles such as "boyar" were used for these high-ranking aristocrats. The nobility played a key role in shaping Bulgaria’s history, especially during the Second Bulgarian Empire (1185–1396). Although their political influence waned after Ottoman conquest, noble lineages persisted, and today, the term may be used metaphorically or to describe historical figures associated with Bulgaria's aristocratic past.
