Builders’ guilds

Builders’ guilds were organized associations of craftsmen and workers involved in construction, such as carpenters, stone masons, and architects, during medieval times. They established standards for quality, workmanship, and safety, and regulated the training and apprenticeship of new members. These guilds also supported members financially in times of need and protected their collective interests. By promoting craftsmanship and maintaining high standards, builders’ guilds contributed to the development of durable, aesthetically pleasing structures and helped ensure a level of professionalism within the construction trades.
