The Bugis are an ethnic group from Sulawesi, Indonesia, known for their rich cultural heritage, strong maritime traditions, and historical significance as traders and sailors. The Bugis are also known for their unique social structure, including a tradition of gender fluidity, where individuals may identify as a different gender than their biological sex, known as "calalai" (female to male) and "calabai" (male to female).
