Budi Utomo

Budi Utomo was the first organized Indonesian political organization, founded in 1908, aiming to promote education, culture, and national identity among Indonesians under Dutch colonial rule. It marked the beginning of structured nationalist movements in Indonesia, advocating for advancements in education and social reform. Although initially focused on intellectual and cultural development rather than independence, Budi Utomo laid the foundation for later political activism that eventually led to Indonesia’s independence. Its establishment helped unite Malaysians and Indonesians in a shared movement toward self-determination and national pride.
