Brutus (Marcus Junius Brutus)

Marcus Junius Brutus was a Roman politician and statesman closely associated with the fall of the Roman Republic. Initially an ally of Julius Caesar, he strongly believed in the Republic’s ideals and feared Caesar’s increasing power threatened Roman liberty. In 44 BCE, Brutus took part in Caesar’s assassination, ruling that it was necessary to restore the Republic’s freedoms. Despite his motives, the murder led to chaos and civil war, eventually ending with the rise of the Roman Empire. Brutus is often remembered as a symbol of republicanism and philosophical conviction, but also as a tragic figure caught between loyalty and political principles.
