British Government of India

The British Government of India was the administrative authority established by Britain to govern India from 1858 to 1947. After the Indian Rebellion of 1857, the British Crown took direct control from the British East India Company. A Viceroy, representing the British government, headed the administration, making key political, military, and economic decisions. The government implemented policies affecting all aspects of Indian life, often prioritizing British interests. India remained a British colony until independence was achieved in 1947, leading to the creation of separate nations India and Pakistan.
