breech presentation

Breech presentation occurs when a baby is positioned in the uterus with its buttocks or feet closest to the birth canal, instead of the head. Normally, a baby moves into a head-down position before labor begins. Breech presentations happen in about 3-4% of pregnancies near term. They can make vaginal delivery more complicated and sometimes require medical interventions, such as a cesarean section, to ensure the safety of both mother and baby. Factors like uterine shape, multiple pregnancies, or prior pregnancy history can influence the likelihood of a breech position.
