Breech Birth

Breech birth occurs when a baby is delivered bottom-first or feet-first instead of head-first. This position can complicate delivery, as the best outcome usually occurs when the baby’s head appears first. Breech presentations are more common earlier in pregnancy but often resolve before labor. If not, healthcare providers may recommend different delivery methods, like a cesarean section, to reduce risks for both mother and baby. In some cases, doctors may try to turn the baby into a head-down position before labor begins through a procedure called external cephalic version.
