Brazil's capital cities history
Brazil's capital has changed multiple times, starting with Salvador (1549-1763), which was the colonial capital. Rio de Janeiro then became the capital until 1960, reflecting its importance and growth. In 1960, Brasília was officially inaugurated as the new capital, designed to promote development inland and reduce regional inequalities. This move also aimed to better integrate the country geographically and politically. Today, Brasília remains Brazil's political and administrative center, symbolizing modernity and national development.
