BRAF (B-Raf Proto-Oncogene)
BRAF is a gene that produces a protein called B-Raf, which plays a key role in cell growth and division by transmitting signals inside cells. When functioning normally, BRAF helps regulate healthy cell behavior. However, mutations in the BRAF gene can cause the protein to become overactive, leading to uncontrolled cell growth. This abnormal activity is often associated with certain cancers, such as melanoma (a type of skin cancer). Understanding BRAF helps in developing targeted treatments that can block these faulty signals and improve cancer therapy outcomes.
